Landscaping the Backyard with a Coy Pond

posted on 14 May 2012 in Construction and Industrial

We love our home, but not so much the garden. When I moved into my new house the backyard was full of weeds, overgrown trees, dead limbs, and junk. We have come a long way in the last six months. I've cleared the ground leaving only the two large oak trees and am now ready to start on the fun part. I've dug a three by eight trench three and a half feet deep and lined it with plastic. I plan to pick out some paving stones and build a patio around the pond with a path to the back door. I'm handy with DIY - in my job, I use post hole augers and other machinery, so I'm looking forward to a little pet project like this. There will be a place for table and chairs a fire pit and room for nice outdoor living furniture around the pit. I will be landscaping around the patio with ornamental pines, holly bushes and maybe a Japanese Maple. The pond will be the focal point and will be filled with lilies and other water plants and also a small water feature. My budget for this project is under eight hundred dollars not including the furniture, I have most of it the other I will search garage sales for. I'm so excited about my new outdoor living space and can't wait to get back to work!

Making Ends Meet Requires Planning, Diligence and Simplicity

posted on 12 May 2012 in Business and Finance

These days, it's very hard to make ends meet. My friend is an insolvency solicitor and he tells me he's never been busier - lucky for him, not so lucky for the economy. My pension calculator tells me I'm not putting nearly enough money away for my future. For me, working at home means I must stay focused to scrape together the money I need to just keep my utility bills paid and keep food on the table. One thing I do is pay my bills weekly instead of bi-weekly or monthly. I have made a list of every household bill I have, and each Wednesday, I pay a pre-determined amount online to each of these bills taking care to keep a percentage on hand to purchase food and necessities. By doing this, I am always sure that my bills will be paid - or close to it. In some instances, I may end up having a little on reserve with a certain utility. In others, I may need to scrabble to pay up a little bit more, but paying every week guarantees that my bills won't snowball out of control. I keep my utility bills as low as possible by using my appliances (such as air conditioners and heaters) sparingly. I try to be very conservative when watering and only water my yard at dusk, by hand rather than using a sprinkler. I economize on food by purchasing in bulk and making inexpensive, healthy choices such as local fruits and vegetables, rice and beans, economy cuts of meat, and by baking my own bread. I drink iced tea, coffee or water and do not buy sodas or other expensive beverages. On clothing and household furnishings, I shop for value at thrift stores and yard/garage sales, and I keep this to a bare minimum. The library can always be counted on for entertainment since it is well stocked with books, audio books, and DVDs.

My Grandfather Showered Us with Toys and Gifts

posted on 12 May 2012 in Toys and Games

I sometimes remember my childhood when I see my daughter playing with her old wooden toys. While we can't afford the modern gadgets like RC boats and computer games, I still see my daughter completely engrossed in the simplest of toys. It brings back those old memories when as a child we were pampered and showered with gifts whenever we visited our grandfather's place. Few days before leaving for our grandfather's house, we sisters would make a small list of what all toys and games we wanted. During those times, Barbie dolls were not available but dolls were always on the top of our priority list followed by cooking set and a doctor set. We would wear our mother's sari and enjoy the summer afternoons playing with our toys. We would prepare tea with water and any brown color that was available. We would pluck out leaves from the various plants to cook. It was the most pleasing period as we enjoyed playing with different kinds of toys with our cousins. We would organize marriage of our dolls also.

My Favorite Album: The White Album

posted on 12 May 2012 in Arts and Entertainment

Released in 1968, The White Album by The Beatles is a fantastic two record set that contains thirty total songs, while demonstrating an incredibly diverse range of playing, composing and recording styles - from one of the recording studio producer legends, George Martin. From the campy sing-a-long of "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da" to the dark and experimental "Helter Skelter." Nearly every talent the Beatles' possessed is on display, right from the get go. The raw enthusiasm of "Back in the U.S.S.R.," "Birthday," and "Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except Me and My Monkey,” potent and heartfelt masterpieces such as "Blackbird" and "I Will," along with the slightly political "The Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill," "Happiness Is a Warm Gun," "Piggies," and "Revolution 1." If that weren't enough, The White Album also features the work of a fifth famous musician. The legendary Eric Clapton adds a very strong solo to “While My Guitar Gently Weeps.”

Don't Forget About Your Responsibilities At The Loss Of A Loved One

posted on 11 May 2012 in Uncategorised

After the loss of his wife, Jim was devastated. He blamed himself for the death of his wife. They had a 10 year old son who was very attached to his mother. Jim was always busy at work or work related travel. Jim and his son were not very close, since he was hardly ever home. Jim's wife always had this complaint and all this was coming back to him. He began drinking on a regular basis. After a few weeks he was terminated from his job as he was unable to focus and provide results. Instead of paying attention to his son, he neglected him further. Not only did the boy lose his mother, his father also did not take care of him. Jim's sister in law was aware of this tense situation at home and had even brought it up with him several times, but it didn't serve any purpose. She realized that the boy's grades at school were getting affected and he was mentally strained. She put her foot down and met her lawyer to seek advice on parental termination rights. She filed a case against Jim and asked for the custody of his son, as he was unable to look after him. The new loving home was acceptable to her nephew and he was slowly begining to step out of the trauma.

The Perfect Gift By Whose Standards?

posted on 6 May 2012 in Uncategorised

It has been my experience in the task of gift buying that it matters more to me than to the person I am buying for! I seem to let a lot of occasions slip by with a brief apology, and a few days later an explanation of how busy I was. But for the ones I do remember, and take the time and trouble to shop far and wide for, I really do get some enjoyment of finding that perfect gift - maybe i's a swarovski photo frame, or tickets to the theatre, or some garden furniture - whatever it is, when I see it in the shop, and I know it's perfect for the recipient, I get that rush - that feeling of having found gold. As to getting ideas for gifts, I try to think of their hobbies or interests, and buy something unique yet useful to them.

How to make your customer staff more effective

posted on 5 May 2012 in Technology

Customer care staff need to be neat to begin with. They must have neat looking uniforms that fit well and they should be clean. You may have seen the uniform that the o2 customer care staff wears, the clothes are always spotless. In business it is said that there is no second impression for the first impression. If you do not make the cut the first time then you will not make the cut at all. When customers come to ask for assistance from your company you need to assure them just by your appearance that you are aware of your duties and that you can discharge them with perfection. The fluency of your customer care staff matters. If you have to take each member of the team for a linguistic class then so be it since you cannot risk having your company embarrassed by people who cannot put sentences together. Then in terms of honesty the customer care staff must be willing to tell the truth at all times. Try these tips and there are sure to work for your business.

Some Clever Tips To House Buying

posted on 4 May 2012 in Home and Garden

When you go to see a house for purchasing, it is advisable to go with your wife and children and try to know their real opinion and satisfaction. It is better to have a digital camera with you and a note book also. When you look over a house with your family members, you can take snaps and notice all of its advantages and disadvantages. Photos do not lie - you can see every stair handrail and door jam through the photos and not forget anything. Remember that any repair work post-sale is going to cost you - all those things add up - the UK plumbing supplies costs, electricians, painters and decorators etc. So always get a house surveyor to properly look over the building to get a professional opinion.

Then you can consult your family members and look over the photos.Try to understand the surrounding location and find out what amenities are nearby as well as main roads. If you are satisfied with these issues, then you can move onto bond and legal matters.

The Most Beautiful Jewelry Display

posted on 24 April 2012 in Fashion

My dad is always travelling on business and it’s really hard for him to show how much he misses us so he does what any absentee parent would do to pad their affections which is to buy their children a ton of presents. For his last trip I told him I wanted nothing but a jewelry display case and if he could find me a nice looking one that I would really be happy.

My dad really went all out because when he came back, the jewelry display case that he brought was absolutely fabulous. It was laid with Swarovski crystals and had a mother of pearl coating which made it look like a jewelry display case fit for a princess. I told my dad that it was the prettiest thing I had ever seen. I felt like my dad was trying to tell me how much I meant to him by buying that precious jewelry case for me.

One Job is Never Enough These Days

posted on 24 April 2012 in Home and Garden

'Just how many jobs will I take in a day in order to earn enough money?', asked Kennedy the other day. I was busy telling him how I was opting to take another job because life was besoming too hard for me. I did not know that he was badly off than I was, hence his reaction. I told him of a neighbor who wakes every early in the morning to start his day. He has three jobs on his head and by the end of the day, despite being too tired to even chat with his family, he goes home with enough money to cater for most of his family's needs. He is a cleaner in one company in town where he works in the morning, a roof tiler in a construction company still in town where he works during the day and a cleaner in a college in town, where he does his shift in the evening. This sounded too much for Kennedy who could not see the need for another job when he works so hard in the job he has but he is paid to little to be enough.

A Bit About My Dream Garden Space

posted on 20 April 2012 in Holiday and Travel

I live in small town called Chalakudy in state of Kerala, India. Our economy is mostly agricultural sector and so 99% family do possess a garden closeby their agriculture area. Our home is situated in 12 acres of land. I have created a small garden in front of our house, with soil mainly being laterite. Laterite soil is good for tea, coffee, cashewnuts and coconuts. For more delicate produce, I use a gazebo to protect them from the elements.
I have maintained his garden for past 18 years, reminiscent of something you might see attached to a french farmhouse than out in the wilderness of India. Before creating the garden I did a research on the features of the soil and the plants which are most likely to thrive on it. I decided to choose on plants which I felt would overcome the climatic and environmental hazards. In the southern part of India, we do receive considerable amounts of rain almost six months a year. So the climate usually is a humid one. I have planted various ornamental and medicinal plants in my garden.
For ornamental flowers, I selected various colours of hibiscus, Jungle Flame (Ixora coccinea), Golden Trumpet (Allamanda cathartica),lotus, hycinthea, roses, jasmine and for medicinal use, I decided to plant Tulsi or the Holy Basil, Feverfew (Chrysanthemum parthenium), Indian Psyllium (Plantago ovata), Evening Primrose (Oenothera biennis),etc.
I have also created a small fish pond in middle of my garden and I have put some little fishes in it.During my leisure hours I spent my time in garden. It gives calm and peace to my mind. Also many little birds have started to make their nests on the tree branches which is yet another beautiful sight to see. I also spray pesticides at regulay intervals, if the plants shows any kind of growth retardations, I immediately supply the concerned fertilizer afer discussing with our local village agricultural officer. In my opinion I would say that gardening in one of the best leisure time activity.

There Was a Time when I Was Hooked to Scrapbooking

posted on 16 April 2012 in Arts and Entertainment

A few years ago I have been enamored with the idea of creating beautiful and cute things through arts and crafts. It started when I stumbled upon a site called Swapbot where arts and crafts are part of the swapping categories that members could partake in. Scrapbooking was a common and highly popular swapping category and people from all parts of the world join in and I was one of the many swappers addicted to it. In the short time I was addicted to it I have accumulated a lot of materials ranging from die cuts, rubber stamps, stamp pads, printed papers, ribbons and several other things. My arts and crafts materials grew uncontrollably that by the time I decided to stop doing it, I had a hard time disposing of those materials. Thankfully, a friend of mine just started doing scraps and she was more than happy to buy all of my supplies and give them a new home. I have seen several of her art work and I have to say they are truly impressive.

I Finally Learned To Like Green Energy (Sort Of)

posted on 16 April 2012 in Technology

With dwindling natural resources like coal and fossil fuels I think we need to hurry and implement more wind farms and hydroelectric stations wherever possible. But keeping in mind, this only gives energy when there is wind. For some countries this is not a problem, but for others this is a concern as they may not be sunny enough for solar power so they will not be able to get this kind of power. An alternative to these two is the biomass boiler which just requires wood chips and they can be sourced in any country. Sustainability is the key word whatever type of renewable source you use - and above all, it must be easy to source and reliable. In my opinion, it's going to take a long time for such renewables to go fully mainstream but inexorably they will eventually become the main sources of energy we will use.

A Remote House Near A Hilly Region

posted on 15 April 2012 in Construction and Industrial

I live in a remote village near hilly region. My house is a villa house erected on pillars. As I've worked in flat roofing for many years, I had a hand in building this house. The pillars are artistically carved and are made of high quality teak wood. It was built thirty years back (when I was younger and fitter) and is still carrying all the dreams of three generations. It is surrounded by farms and fields. We cultivate almost everything that we need for our food. My house has a quite big square garden in the middle of it around which the rooms are built. The top of the garden is covered by wire mesh preventing thieves from entering. My father would say, before setting up the wire mesh, thieves often haunt my house. The rooms are spacious with cupboards on three sides and a big window on one side. Colorful glasses were fixed on the window panes. There is small pond at the back of my house. I love to swim in that lotus pond. Such a fantastic place it is!

Remembering a Game Show from Way Back

posted on 14 April 2012 in Technology

Many years ago, I remember I used to watch a game show on tv. I could no longer recall how it was called exactly but I remember how it was supposed to be played. There were only two of them on stage the game show host and the player. The host asked questions which the player needs to answer correctly. The more correctly answered questions meant more money for the player. So the goal was to answer as many questions correctly. The moment a wrong answer is given, then the game is over. The good thing about the game was that there were ways by which the player can be helped by family and friends. Every time the player was unsure of his answer he can consult the so called helpline. It was a fun game and I remember how mom and dad used to enjoy it too. Its just too bad that it isn't airing anymore at present. It would still be fun for sure. I just wish that I still get the chance to play in that show one day.

The Goals and Measurability of Internet Marketing

posted on 13 April 2012 in Internet Related

Web sites without significant number of visits are inefficient and probably waste of invested money. The goal of Internet Marketing is to bring as many visitors to the website and the best results are achieved by ensuring visitors belong to a target market relevant to the site's content - and this is primarily achieved through SEO and targeting specific keywords. The fact is that at any given time there are a huge number of people on the Internet looking for exactly what you're offering - the question is how they can find you? This is achieved through keyword research and the aforementioned SEO. You need to research the kinds of keywords your target market will be using and then ensure your site's content matches closely to these keywords - especially in page titles. Essentially, write for your audience! Link building is the other aspect to SEO and this is often the most time consuming.

Things that can spoil your internet or TV signal

posted on 7 April 2012 in Technology

When you are using the internet it is always advised that you do not place other electronic gadgets near your computer. When different gadgets are placed near each other they share an electrical field which transmits energy over the surrounding area. You may need to move all transmitter devices away from your computer especially if you are using a modem. This is because the modem speeds can be affected by things like phone signals and over time of exposure to the electrical field the modem can stop working. You can also spoil your internet freeview signal if you do not place your wireless booster in clear view of an external space. Some boosters can be strong enough to work in enclosed spaces but others may need to be elevated and to be placed in open air so that there can be no interruption of internet signals. If you have no way of receiving signals on your computer then it is about time that you had your computer internet setting adjusted or you can replace your wireless connection booster.
